Okay, Forget the past. Here is our new blog. I have copied the layout. Our gmail account is audiochildren@gmail.com. For photos we shall use flicker, our account is audiochildren@yahoo.com Pasword has been sent to your emails. No secrets, as we all have full access to it. No one must ask another to change anything. Any ethic? perhaps it will be useful:)
I see you all placing a reaction and a photo as it works. cheeros
I have asked today the auto-painter, if he would paint your speakers. He said that he can, but retrainded from any price estimate before seing it first. Next time I shall show him some photos if you interested ofcourse.
Thanks for asking the painter, I will try to shoot a foto showing the general concept. Although I am still a long way from painting.
You guys probably seen it already but on 6-moons there is a review of a Red wine audio amp 30.2 They are very positive about this amplifier giving it a all time superduper award.
This amp is basically a Tripath design with a tube pre-amp and some Lead acid batteries for power. Would it be possible to build something like this cheaply?
I cant find a way to start a new topic so here my reaction to the red wine amp. I havent read the review yet (must work!!!) but of course something similar can always be DIY'ed. The triamp itself is already no problemo. I think i read somthing on tnt about a nice diy pre amp.
Aaaah, here it is http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/audiodigit_tubepre_e.html
Why not combine these two (actually i already discussed this with Wyb some thime ago). The review mentions the good combination between the clinical/colder T amp and the warm tubed pre amp sound. SSsssssssssssssssssssssssssynergy.....
@andre, Thanks for asking the painter, although I think I prefer a matt finish. I am also considering laminating but that's probabaly to tricky for me. As a (cheap) alternative I might try wallpaper.
The tube/T-amp sounds really promissing to me and i'd be inclined to build one in the future. I should note though that I have heard some negative comments on combining a tube pre amp with my DAC.
Need a break from work, been pumping out drawings like a maniac.
I did some reading on the red wine amp and found that an older version does not have a pre-amp, only an attentuator.
They us a TK2051 chip from tripath. This is used in the Amp 4 kit from 41Hz. This kit consists of mostly surface mount components making it difficult to solder. Also the chip is more suited for 8 ohm loads. (In the datasheet they advise the outputs to be parralled for 4 ohm loads giving a cool 100 watts of power!!)
The batteries will costs something like 30e a piece (12V, 5 Ah).
Another possibilty is using a different chip (like the Amp9 kit) but this has a lot higher distortion.
I think we need to find a soldering guru who will build the amp4 kit for us. Hook up some batteries and volume control et voila.
I must not doubt where were you last evening, toch? How it is going? I have heard that you go for a hard wire the speaker’s filter, may this be useful? http://shop.41hz.com/shop/item.asp?catid=31&itemid=913 On 01-12 Tijs mentioned a word “synergy”. Isn’t an idea to build the speakers and even the source? Than listen for a while with your new receiver, in order to determine where to go: - Small and shallow stage would ask for tube pre. amp; - Difficulty on high volume could ask for transistor. amp. with lot of power? - Both above could yeld for tube pre. amp. and power amps. apart?
Check the last photo of Coltrane photo. What do you think about the feet? I do not think it would be difficult to make such?
Yesterday I was annoying the neighbors by routing the second set of baffles until 10.30. The plans for the amp are just some thoughts. I saw another nice kit on 41Hz: amp15-xp 2x300 watts into 4 ohm Seems so cool to solder your own amp.
Been thinking about the feet: The speakers are pretty wide themselves. I think I will just start with some spikes in the bottom like on the speakers I built for my brother. Can always add feet later on.
Damn, I must go on a weekend trip with Lucy's family. I want to build!!
I just finished testing my amp1! The SMD soldering wasnt too difficult especially with my headlight on :) Now I will have to see which amp I want to sell to de klimmuur, my old amp5 or the new amp1 They basically have the same chip but the layout is different so this could effect the quality.
I still have to build a housing for the new amp1 but so far I spent only 115E on the kit including the toroid gold plated connectors and power-supply.
So Adrian; I guess I might be your guru. The thing with amp 4 is that the chip is also SMD which might pose a challenge for my 0.8 mm wide tip (of my soldering iron that is).
I recently read this about spikes: http://www.audioholics.com/education/loudspeaker-basics/speaker-spikes-and-cones-2013-what2019s-the-point I can really appreciate his arguments.
Hi Wybe, that’s a great analyze indeed. I personally use spikes for electronics, however many times heard that that it was not correct. Anyway, from your article I drew the conclusion which fitted to my other desire believing. It is called still-points. Why? Because it combines hard with soft! Please have a look at this description:
http://www.stillpoints.us/Stillpoints/the_design.html (Picture in our photo album)
Question: Are my loving three engineers capable of coping it?
@Tijs, Since wen you have something against naked? You know, I still cant forget about the idea of going to gey sauna and these there around. I think it can be a great fun!!! I know that I am crazy, though not crazy enough to do it myself. We catch with wood later as I get better. Cheeros
@Wybe, Firstly, you had not written about your knee. How are you doing man?
I wish to get back to the crazy astronaut and his channel separation to get the 3D effect. I have found out, that this idea is not really new. There are other similar techniques with already quite wide application. Have a look at this: http://www.qsound.com/demos/3d-audio.htm Nothing against your great finding, but after first enthusiasm, I am doubting if such techniques are something that we are really looking for? Maybe I sound now, as an old prick, but I guess I shall stick to stereo searching for the sweet point for ever. What do you think?
My knee is okay, but I am still limping a bit. Next week I'll get the results of the MRI scan.
The virtual barbershop is really cool (binaural barber shop)! I like the the fact that these work on a normal stereo set-up. I wonder why this type of mixing has not really kicked off yet.
I have also opened a new tread on my amp1 for the klimmuur, any ideas on the housing? I was planning to go for a simple wooden design without volume switch or anything but the in/out-puts since the system is stowed away anyway. @Adriaan How are the speakers coming along?
@stowed away, hmmm Maybe this sall be changed and put the amp. next to DAC (that will certainly follow) on a nice shelve. What about steiger planks. I could arange some. 3cm thick, rough in white wash or red. Not expensieve and nice.
ps. doesn´t the huge speakers cables lengt (imoednace)influance the amp. outcome?
Put some pick of your speakers progres and inform of MRI resoults.

Au revoir mes copains
Adriaan
forgot something:
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe parralleled TK2051 delivers 70 watts at 0.005% THD+N into 4 ohm
I tried to build an Amp9 basic kit some years ago and totally fu#%&@( it up.
Still updating (and not working):
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLooking at the 41 Hz website the amp4 kit can be used for 4 ohm load provided you lower the supply voltage(wich should be between 20 and 32 Volt.
A good way to start would be one amp4 kit with 2 12 volt batteries and see what is does

BeantwoordenVerwijderento open new blog, log-in and go to ontwwerpen and to dashboard. There you will find a button to open new link.
Plese find out, how to paste working link into the text field. I had tried, thoug did not succeded.
It is also possible to paste the photos into the text field, but I also do not know how.
Currently, whey you upload the phots on our flicer account, than they show up in our blog. - ask if questions.
If you want to add the lik to our link list go to ontwerpen.
@Adrian
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat about these feets. It could be made of wood, aluminum from your work, toch?

@Tijs
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think I would have a 18mm board of esdoorn, around 0,6m2.
Is it something for you DAC?

BeantwoordenVerwijderenPfffff, thats expensive
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAt least the stillpoints use ceramic materials... also one of your dreams.
I go with wybe's article, spikes resemble women on high heels thus are sexy :)
And dont tempt me to make jokes about combining hard with soft.
